UNITY CLUB Intwararumuri Engages INES-Ruhengeri’s Unity and Resilience Club

10 June 2025

On 10th June 2025, INES-Ruhengeri welcomed a delegation from Unity Club Intwararumuri for a formal visit to the institution’s Unity and Resilience Club (IURC), in a continued effort to promote unity, patriotism, and resilience among university students. The visit, which brought together members of the IURC committee and staff from Unity Club Intwararumuri, served as a significant moment of reflection and motivation for students engaged in the Ndi Umunyarwanda program, an initiative that Unity Club Intwararumuri proudly sponsors in higher learning institutions across the country.

Founded in 2022 through support from Unity Club Intwararumuri, the INES Unity and Resilience Club has grown steadily, now counting over 264 active members. During the meeting, Ms. NIYONKURU Eliane, President of IURC, presented the club’s objectives, activities, and notable achievements, reaffirming the club’s central mission: to instill and sustain the values of unity and national identity within the student community and beyond.

The club’s activities reflect a strong commitment to community engagement, civic education, and youth empowerment. IURC has organized impactful public dialogues and student conferences focusing on the Ndi Umunyarwanda philosophy and Rwanda’s journey of reconciliation. The club has extended its reach to secondary schools such as G.S. St Aloys Musanze I and ESC Musanze, engaging younger learners through outreach visits aimed at spreading unity-driven values. Between January and February 2025, the club also conducted poetry and music competitions that provided a platform for creative expression around themes of unity and patriotism.

In response to the growing challenge of misinformation, especially among youth, IURC has actively launched awareness campaigns on social media, encouraging students to critically assess and responsibly share information. The club has also carried out meaningful community support projects, including the sponsorship of health insurance for 150 vulnerable citizens, an initiative made possible with the support of INES-Ruhengeri. Additionally, the club participated in this year’s Kwibuka 31 activities, including visits to genocide memorial sites, and has taken part in community service through Umuganda and peer-institution exchanges.

One standout success shared during the meeting was the unity dialogue event held in November 2024, which attracted 461 participants, more than double the initially projected attendance. The strong turnout demonstrated the increasing relevance and impact of the club’s mission within the student body.

Representatives from Unity Club Intwararumuri expressed their appreciation for the enthusiasm, leadership, and sense of responsibility demonstrated by IURC members. They encouraged continued student engagement in preserving Rwanda’s unity and building a society rooted in truth, resilience, and shared values.

The event concluded with a resounding affirmation from all participants:
“Ubumwe bwacu nizo mbaraga zacu”: Our unity is our strength.
