On May 8th, 2025, the Red Cross Youth Section of INES-Ruhengeri carried out a powerful community outreach initiative at Ineza Kabaya New Vision Center, a facility dedicated to caring for 24 children with disabilities, particularly those affected by mental health challenges.
The outreach, which aligned with the humanitarian spirit of the Red Cross Movement, marked an important step in building sustainable support for vulnerable groups in our communities. As part of the activity, the student-led team donated 10 chickens and poultry feed to the center. This thoughtful contribution aims to launch a small-scale poultry farming initiative that will serve as both a nutritional resource and a hands-on livelihood training opportunity for the children.
In addition to the donation, Red Cross youth members and staff at the center shared a communal egg-based meal, a simple yet meaningful gesture that deepened emotional connections and encouraged mutual understanding between the children, caregivers, and volunteers.
“We wanted to do more than donate; we wanted to engage. Sharing a meal was our way of showing love, not just support,” said Djamari Niyonkuru, President of the Red Cross Youth at INES-Ruhengeri.
The initiative was made possible through the collective efforts of student members and generous donors, who together raised RWF 120,000 to fund the activity. The INES-Ruhengeri administration played a vital role by facilitating transportation and logistical support, for which the team expressed sincere gratitude.
This outreach activity is a testament to the values of compassion, service, and sustainable impact that the Red Cross Youth and INES-Ruhengeri strive to uphold. The team remains committed to empowering vulnerable populations and fostering long-term community partnerships.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to INES-Ruhengeri for their unwavering support. Together, we are shaping a generation that serves with purpose,” added Djamari.
