Farm to Fork in Rwanda Project officially launched

On Saturday, 18th March 2023, INES-Ruhengeri in partnership with its partners officially launched the project entitled “Farm to Fork Supply Chain and Ecosystem in Rwanda”.

The project proposal was submitted by Dr. Emmanuel Kamana, a lecturer at INES-Ruhengeri in collaboration with some partners including SMS nation, Spiderbit, and Onebasket.rw and it was funded by Research and Innovation Systems for Africa (RISA) and UKaid.

 

The project seeks to improve livelihoods through all-inclusive and innovative high quality food production, fast, cost-effective, and clean transportation techniques that match modern, ready farm-to-market solutions.

This integrative project will be focusing on the research, quality analysis and Training, IT technology for metrological data, and sensor for soil analysis, development of an application for linking the farmer and the consumer for reducing postharvest losses as well as job creation by incorporating women and youth into the value chain.

 

“INES-Ruhengeri is ready to play an important part during the implementation of this project. We will share with partners our long experience in dealing with industry for bridging the gap between the need of the labour market and exit profile of students.”, Fr. Dr. Jean Bosco Baribeshya, Vice-Chancellor of INES-Ruhengeri mentioned during the event.

Vice-Chancellor added that INES-Ruhengeri will also share its expertise in quality analysis through laboratories and research. Mrs. Juliette Ingabire is among the project beneficiaries. She expressed her joy, saying that the project comes at the right time because it will help farmers to boost their crops and use them efficiently.

“As we multiply potato seeds in greenhouses, we are going to have enough seeds that we may even sell outside the country with high quality”, Mrs. Juliette Ingabire, a local agronomist said.


A project of one year; will start by working with five cooperatives of local farmers with the possibility to be extended.
