Dr. Jacqueline NYIRAJANA is a Lecturer and the
current Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at INES-Ruhengeri.
She holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Ibadan
(Nigeria), a Master’s degree in Highway and Transportation Engineering
from the International Institute for Water and Environmental Engineering
(2iE) in Burkina Faso (2013–2015), and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil
Engineering from the former National University of Rwanda
(2006–2011).
Since joining INES-Ruhengeri in 2015, Dr. Nyirajana has been
deeply engaged in both teaching and research, focusing on
transportation systems, infrastructure design, and sustainable mobility. In 2024,
she was appointed as Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, where
she plays a key leadership role in curriculum development, academic mentorship,
and institutional partnerships.
Her professional experience extends beyond academia. She has worked as a
Consultant in Transport and Sustainable Mobility with the Global
Green Growth Institute (GGGI), contributing to the project “Smart and
Electric Public Transport Services for Low-Carbon Development in Rwanda (RW31)”.
She also engages internationally through various workshops and collaborations,
including her participation in:
Dr. Nyirajana has authored and co-authored several peer-reviewed
research articles, contributing to academic discourse in transportation,
sustainability, and education. Her published works include:
Her research and professional interests focus on sustainable urban
transport systems, traffic engineering and smart mobility, road
safety and infrastructure planning, gender and equity in engineering
education, and low-carbon and electric transport solutions.
Dr. Nyirajana is widely respected for her leadership, academic
excellence, and commitment to advancing sustainable infrastructure development
both in Rwanda and beyond.
