INES-Ruhengeri Students Awarded in National Book Reading and Writing Competition

Methode Emmanuel IHIRWE clinched a prestigious spot among the top three winners in a national book reading and writing competition.

Philbert HABARUREMA also demonstrated remarkable skill by securing the tenth position in the Inter-University Writing and Reading Competition organized by the Rwanda Writers Federation.

The award ceremony, held on April 4, 2024, at the Kigali Convention Center, celebrated their achievements alongside other talented participants. The event drew students from various universities and delegates from the Rwanda Writers Federation's partner companies, highlighting the importance of cultivating a love for literature among Rwandan college and university students.

Out of the 22 participants who reached the national level, 11 surpassed the 70% threshold and were duly recognized, including our two outstanding representatives from INES-Ruhengeri: HABARUREMA Philbert and Methode Emmanuel IHIRWE, who secured the third place.

Emmanuel's exceptional performance garnered him a Certificate, medal, RF 100,000, and a book from Richard HATEGEKIMANA, enriching his understanding of Rwanda's history and fostering valuable connections within the literary community. The future plans of Emmanuel include championing reading initiatives, fostering participation in the Reading and Writing Books Club, and embarking on his own writing journey, offering sage advice to seize every opportunity that comes one's way.

Similarly, Philbert, a 2nd-year student in Plant Biotechnology, received accolades in the form of a Certificate, medal, and RF 30,000. His participation not only connected him with fellow book enthusiasts but also ignited a passion for promoting a culture of reading within INES-Ruhengeri.

The competition, which commenced in November 2023 at the university level, witnessed seven INES-Ruhengeri students progressing to the provincial stage, where five surpassed the 70% mark, earning them a ticket to the national level. At the nationals, two INES students, including Emmanuel, secured well-deserved awards, solidifying the institution's commitment to nurturing academic excellence and literary talent.
