INES-Ruhengeri Hosts Public Talk on China’s Development Model: Exploring Lessons for Rwanda

As part of its ongoing initiative to broaden international academic engagement and promote cross-cultural knowledge exchange, INES-Ruhengeri hosted a public talk titled “The Communist Party of China and its National Development Models: What Lessons Can Rwanda Learn?”

The session brought together students and staff from the Faculty of Law and Public Administration for an interactive presentation delivered by Dr. Nan Luo, Assistant Professor at the School of Marxism, Sun Yat-sen University.

The public talk offered students and faculty a platform to engage with China’s historical and contemporary development trajectories. Dr. Luo outlined the key drivers behind China’s economic and social transformation, facilitating a comparative discussion on how distinct development models can inform Rwanda’s own strategic growth agenda.

During the interactive session, students actively participated in discussions surrounding public policy, governance, and national development strategies, evaluating how global insights can be contextually applied to local governance and economic frameworks.

Welcoming the visiting delegation, Dr. Alfred Mwenedata, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Public Administration, emphasized the value of international academic dialogue. He commended the delegation from Sun Yat-sen University for honoring the invitation and highlighted the importance of cultivating sustained bilateral cooperation.

Looking Ahead: Institutional Cooperation

Following the lecture, the Chinese delegation met with members of the INES-Ruhengeri executive leadership team, led by the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance.

The strategic meeting focused on laying the groundwork for long-term institutional collaboration between INES-Ruhengeri and Sun Yat-sen University. Key areas of mutual interest identified during the talks included:

• Joint Research: Collaborative projects in public policy, development economics, and international governance.

• Faculty & Student Exchange Programs: Opportunities for cross-institutional learning and cultural immersion.

• Institutional Capacity Building: Knowledge-sharing workshops and specialized academic seminars.
