The research explored students’ behaviours, needs, and challenges within both higher learning institutions and secondary schools in Musanze District. The findings provide valuable, evidence-based insights aimed at strengthening student wellbeing, institutional support systems, and inclusive education practices.
The study highlighted several key recommendations, including the importance of strong institutional discipline, the establishment of permanent counseling services, active parental involvement, preventive sensitization, student engagement through clubs, and strengthened collaboration between educational institutions, communities, and government entities.
In addition, the research emphasized the need for a multidisciplinary professional approach to student support. This includes teaching staff focusing on positive student relationships, psychological staff addressing individual mental health needs, social work staff supporting group dynamics and activities, and community and network staff enhancing cooperation with families and external partners.
The research was conducted under the OASIS Project, a collaborative initiative between INES-Ruhengeri and the Catholic University of Applied Sciences Rhine-Westphalia (katho), Germany. The project reflects a strong international partnership and a shared commitment to applied research that addresses real-world educational and social challenges.
The final presentation marked an important milestone in advancing research-informed decision-making and reinforcing INES-Ruhengeri’s role as a University of Applied Sciences dedicated to impactful research, student wellbeing, and community engagement.
