INES-Ruhengeri ADR Club Empowers Musanze Community through "Inteko z’Abaturage"

05 May 2026

On May 5th, 2026, the INES-Ruhengeri community reaffirmed its commitment to social responsibility and legal literacy. Student members of the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Club joined residents of Rwambogo Cell, Musanze Sector, for a proactive community assembly, locally known as Inteko z’Abaturage.

This engagement serves as a vital bridge between academic excellence and grassroots impact, bringing legal expertise directly to the citizens who need it most.

Led by a passion for justice and peacebuilding, the law students engaged in a constructive dialogue with community members. The primary focus of the visit was to demystify the legal landscape surrounding conflict and to introduce Alternative Dispute Resolution as a powerful tool for social harmony.

During the assembly, students provided comprehensive insights into:

  • National Legal Frameworks: Simplifying the laws governing disputes in Rwanda.

  • ADR Mechanisms: Explaining the benefits of mediation and reconciliation over traditional litigation.

  • Conflict De-escalation: Sharing practical techniques for resolving disagreements peacefully at the household and neighborhood levels.

The session was characterized by a high level of engagement. Community members raised various legal concerns and questions regarding land disputes, family disagreements, and civil matters. The INES team addressed these inquiries with clarity, fostering an environment of mutual learning and trust.

"Our goal is not just to study the law, but to ensure the law works for our community. By promoting ADR, we are helping to build a more cohesive society where conflicts are viewed as opportunities for restoration rather than division." — ADR Club Representative.

The event took place in the presence of local leaders, who commended the initiative for aligning with national goals of decentralizing justice. The students assured the residents of Rwambogo Cell of their continued support, pledging to provide ongoing guidance on national laws and dispute resolution processes.

This outreach is part of a broader institutional strategy at INES-Ruhengeri to produce graduates who are not only technically proficient but also socially conscious. Through the ADR Club and various community-based programs, the Institute will continue to:

  1. Educate the public on their legal rights and obligations.

  2. Promote a culture of peaceful conflict resolution.

  3. Strengthen the bond between the academia and the local population.

By taking the classroom to the Inteko z’Abaturage, INES-Ruhengeri continues to prove that education is the most effective tool for sustainable community development.
